I recently started working with the Bristol NeuroPhysio Clinic as a Massage Therapist providing specialist massage for neurological conditions (Neuromuscular Therapy or NMT) as well as Myofascial Release Therapy.
With these expert treatments, I can help a wide variety of clients – from athletes with sports injuries to those suffering chronic pain, fibromyalgia, alignment issues, spinal injury and other neurological problems such as Stroke, Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Spastic Paraparesis and others.
How Massage can help?
Neurological Massage therapy also known as Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a modern approach to massage therapy based on a thorough understanding of the way the neuromuscular system works. By applying this technique I can understand the causes of your pain whether it’s trigger points, posture or another underlying condition, and then devise an approach on how to treat you. Because the nervous system controls muscle tension and pain in your body, NMT allows me to treat not just the symptoms but address the causes too.
The Main Benefits
Neurological Massage Therapy will bring you all the great benefits of massage but as it is specifically tailored for people with neurological conditions or spinal injuries, there are some additional advantages:
Gives you independence and improves your mobility as it alleviates the side effects of immobility (e.g. chronic muscle tightness, poor posture, and painful joints)
Relaxes over-tense muscles to release the accumulated lactic acid and alleviates pain. This improves the flow of oxygen to the tissues and fastens repair and recovery
Trigger points (sensitive areas in your muscles) can cause strain and pain throughout the muscle which, if untreated, can become myofascial pain syndrome. NMT techniques help find and treat trigger points which prevent future accumulation of tension and pain.
Releases myofascial adhesions and can also soften scar tissue resulting from surgery, injury or overuse
NMT reduces stress, anxiety and tension, increases confidence and positive self-body image.
Increases greatly your overall quality of life as you become more independent and pain-free
I treat each of my clients one-on-one, offering a highly tailored service for everyone’s specific needs with a sincere, personal and honest approach aimed at healing the whole body long term and not just alleviating the immediate symptoms. I work in conjunction with other care professionals, such as GP, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths to tailor the treatment for the individual’s needs and ensure that all factors are taken into account.
The fact that I offer mobile treatments is of great benefit for clients with neurological conditions who might find it a challenge to visit a clinic. Having the treatment in the comfort of your own home allows you to experience less stress prior to the session and also to relax and fully enjoy the benefits afterwards.
I keep my level of knowledge and skills up-to-date with continuous professional development (CPD) training and follow all the latest trends and innovations in massage therapy and neuromuscular therapy in particular.
I want all my clients to have peace of mind when they use my services and feel completely at ease with the mobile massage sessions at their homes. Therefore, I have undergone a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check of criminal records and have a valid certificate, which is an additional reassurance in particularly for some of my clients with neurological conditions who might be feeling a bit more vulnerable having a visiting therapist at their own homes.
